BAN PA AO SCONCE - RICE HUSK BLUE

This sculptural brass sconce is part of a design collaboration between Robert Sukrachand and the Ban Pa Ao brassware community in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. Each piece is cast entirely by hand using centuries-old techniques, without molds or modern equipment.

 

The result is a one-of-a-kind lighting object — organic, textured, and deeply expressive. The Rice Husk Blue patina is achieved by burning local rice husks, producing a rich, speckled finish unique to this region and process.

Each light from Ban Pa Ao is crafted by hand, with no use of molds or modern technologies. Your light will undoubtedly look different than the one pictured. The ancient techniques result in beautifully imperfect castings that show the hand of the maker and the natural materials involved in the process. Due to the one-of-a-kind nature of our casting and rice husk patination process, each Ban Pa Ao lamp will exhibit unique variations in color and surface pattern.
